Q Arabica Grader

Course information

The CQI Q Coffee System is an internationally recognised program to evaluate cup quality based on a standardised system for Arabica coffee using protocols developed by the SCA. A Q Arabica Grader is a highly trained and calibrated coffee taster who evaluates coffee using SCA’s cupping standards and protocols.

This course combines training and testing to reinforce students’ understanding of the Q Arabica grading process while measuring their ability to evaluate Arabica coffee according to established Specialty Arabica standards.

Content

This course consists of two corresponding parts over six days.

• In the first part, for 3 days, students review the assumed knowledge and theoretical principles, including the practice of all activities.
• The second part is a series of 3-day exams on the presented material. The course includes 20 exams in 9 modules to assess students’ job skills, including cupping protocols, olfactory and gustatory senses, identification of defects in green coffee, identification of defects in roasted samples and the combination of coffee acids. The tests also include recognising and recalling CQI flavour standards in water-based solutions.
