Course information

The basic roasting course is designed to teach the basic skills of coffee roasting to people who have no previous experience as roasters. In this training, students will learn the roasting process, including the roasting cycle, the physical changes that the beans undergo during the process, as well as the different levels of roasting.

Professional Probat & Giesen brand roasters of different sizes are used.

• Theory and practice of the stages of the roasting cycle and heat transfer
• Brief history of roasting
• Parameters of green coffee that influence roasting
• Roasting and bean density
• Physical chemistry of roasting
• Endothermic and exothermic phases
• Roasting processes
• Handling and use of machinery
• Cupping roasted coffees

For the course, a dossier with the necessary syllabus will be given to the student, and a certificate of completion will be given when it ends.

Who it’s aimed at

The basic roasting course is designed to teach the basic skills of coffee roasting to people who have no previous experience as roasters.

For this course, it is necessary to have knowledge of green coffee, in order to then seek the optimal roasting profile.

Previous knowledge

It is advisable to have knowledge of green coffee and cupping.
